CinePlus Not Working? 10 Fixes That Solve Most Problems

CinePlus picked up where BeeTV left off — same developers, same simple idea — so when it stops working, the frustration feels familiar. The key difference is that CinePlus is still maintained, which flips the diagnosis: with BeeTV, a failure was often the app dying; with CinePlus, the cause is usually something local and fixable on your own device. This guide works through ten fixes in the order to try them. If you have not installed it yet, start with our CinePlus install guide; if your trouble began with BeeTV dying on you, our account of the BeeTV shutdown explains the bigger picture.

Fix 1: Force Close and Relaunch the App

Frozen menus, blank categories and endless searches usually mean a session that has gone stale, not a broken app. On Firestick, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > CinePlus > Force Stop, then relaunch and give it a full minute — source lists load in the background, and impatient tapping makes a healthy app look broken. On Android, force stop from the app info screen.

Fix 2: Clear the Cache (Not the Data)

CinePlus caches posters, source results and temporary files, and a stale cache is the most common cause of weird behaviour. Clear it via Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > CinePlus > Clear Cache. Choose Clear Cache, not Clear Data — Clear Data also wipes favourites, history and authorisations.

Fix 3: Restart the Device Properly

Streaming sticks and TV boxes sleep rather than switch off, and weeks of sleeping leaves them short on free memory. A genuine restart — Settings > My Fire TV > Restart on Firestick, or unplug the power for 30 seconds — returns the full memory to the app. Sluggish menus and stuttering playback very often end here.

Fix 4: Test the Connection Where It Matters

Run a speed test on the streaming device itself, not on your phone beside the router. SD needs about 5 Mbps at the TV, HD about 10 Mbps, and 4K sources want 25 Mbps or more. If the number at the TV is far below the number on your bill, distance and walls are the story: move the router, or switch from the crowded 2.4 GHz band to 5 GHz. Streams that start well and then stall are covered in our streaming buffering fixes.

Fix 5: Refresh the Source Search and Retry

CinePlus does not host anything — it scrapes third-party sources when you open a title, and scraping is uneven. An empty result at 7:00 can be a healthy list at 7:05. Back out of the title, re-enter it, and re-run the search once or twice. If menus load but one title persistently shows nothing while others play, that title’s sources are the problem, not your setup — the pattern in our no links and “No Data” diagnosis.

Fix 6: Correct the Date and Time

This fix surprises everyone. Streaming sources use security certificates valid only inside a date window, and a Firestick whose clock drifted after a power cut gets its connections refused — which looks exactly like dead sources. Set date and time to automatic (Settings > Preferences > Time Zone on Fire TV) and retry the title.

Fix 7: Free Up Storage Space

A stick with only a few hundred megabytes free misbehaves in ways that blame the app unfairly: failed updates, corrupted caches, random crashes. Check Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage, delete apps you no longer use, and keep at least half a gigabyte free.

Fix 8: Change the External Player

If CinePlus finds links but playback fails, freezes or shows a black screen, the player is the weak link more often than the app. Install MX Player or VLC, set it as default in CinePlus settings, and replay the same stream. Player choice also decides subtitle behaviour — auto-loading, downloads and timing fixes all live in the player — as our subtitles and player guide explains.

Fix 9: Check VPN and Provider Blocking

Some internet providers block the domains streaming sources use, and some VPN exit servers are blocked by the sources themselves. Test both directions: if you normally run a VPN, try CinePlus with it off; if you never use one, test the app on your phone over mobile data instead of home Wi-Fi. Links appearing on mobile data point at your provider — changing the router DNS to a public resolver such as 1.1.1.1 resolves many of these cases.

Fix 10: Reinstall CinePlus Cleanly

When an install itself is damaged, no setting will save it. Uninstall CinePlus completely, restart the device (this flushes leftover files — do not skip it), then install fresh from a source you trust and re-authorise your services. Your debrid and Trakt accounts carry over — the setup flow in our Real-Debrid and Trakt guide applies to CinePlus unchanged.

Because CinePlus is actively maintained, a permanent failure is unlikely to be the app itself — the contrast with BeeTV’s final months is the point of the switch, and our CinePlus vs BeeTV comparison covers what else changed. Coming from a dead BeeTV install instead? Our BeeTV not working guide is the right ladder for that app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did CinePlus suddenly stop working?

Most sudden CinePlus failures are local: a stale cache, a drifted clock, low storage, or a temporary source outage. Work through the fixes above in order. Because CinePlus is still maintained, a permanent shutdown is not the likely explanation it was with BeeTV.

Will clearing CinePlus data delete my favourites?

Clear Cache will not — it only removes temporary files. Clear Data resets the app completely and deletes favourites, history and account authorisations stored inside it. If you use Trakt, your watchlist and history survive regardless — they live on Trakt’s servers.

CinePlus shows no links. Is it shutting down too?

Almost certainly not. Empty results usually mean the sources for that title are down or your network is blocking them. Test another title and another network; if everything is empty everywhere, it is a temporary source-side outage, and waiting is the fix.

When should I reinstall CinePlus?

Reinstall only after the quicker fixes fail — cache, restart, clock, storage, player — because reinstalling means setting the app up again. It is the right answer for an install that crashes on launch or misbehaves after an interrupted update.
